上から目線

うえからめせん
Literally "looking from above" (上から = from above + 目線 = line of sight). Describes someone who talks or acts condescendingly, as if they are above you — even though they are actually on the same level or below. Think of that coworker who gives unsolicited advice like they are your boss, or that random person on social media who lectures everyone. One of the most common ways to call out arrogant behavior in Japanese, especially in workplace gossip and online discussions.

That senior at work always gives advice in such a condescending way — so annoying.
